The Bokokotor Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in the world. It is composed of four smaller bays: the Tivat, Kotor, Risan-Morinj and Topla Bay. At the very entrance of the bay is Herceg Novi, an administrative, cultural and economic center of the district which covers an area of 235 km2.
The district itself has 50 000 inhabitants, whilst the urban community of Herceg Novi is about 1 km lengthwise and with a population of around 10 thousand.
